This includes the development and enrichment of the schools Design & Technology learning experience, equipping students with the opportunities, environment and practical skills to thrive in a modern, creative career.

Bolton Muslim Girls' School identified a valuable opportunity in the adjacent Mill building to enhance and expand their existing facilities. By upgrading and developing the third floor, the school aimed to create dynamic, purpose-built spaces for a range of creative subjects. This strategic move supports the delivery of an innovative curriculum, with a focus on encouraging girls to engage in STEM and other forward-thinking, problem solving disciplines.

The space was a blank canvas and although initial discussions included a static layout for the new learning space, after consultation with the Technology Supplies team, it became clear that a more flexible, dynamic layout would better serve their needs. Our specially designed Akira™ range of mobile furniture for D&T education, was proposed to help BMGS create a space that could quickly and easily adapt to different teaching, and learning styles and activities.

Key drivers for the new facility included a focus on flexibility, functionality, and adaptability, by converting the old mill third floor into four main D&T classrooms and a prep room.

Based on a proven track record and successful partnership with BMGS’ D&T teacher, Tim McCarthy, the school selected Technology Supplies to design and install their new state-of-the-art D&T facilities. The project specification included spaces for Resistant Materials, Electronics, Fashion and Textiles, Art, Graphics / ICT and a generously sized store / prep room. The building also needed to facilitate further break-out rooms, staff facilities, and ample storage space. Tim led the project, along with the school’s Head Teacher, Idrish Patel, working with the team to bring their vision to life.

“My experience working with Technology Supplies has been excellent. I had worked with them at a previous school, which influenced my decision to contact them again when I began leading this much larger project. My close relationship with the team helped develop the project as a whole, ensuring everything went smoothly.”

The new suite at BMGS represents a visionary transformation of the department’s facilities. The Akira™ furniture range allows for quick changes in layout to suit various teaching styles and projects. The inclusion of high-tech equipment, such as CNC machines, 3D printers, and laser cutters, ensures that students are exposed to the latest technologies and techniques used in industry.

The new facility has not only improved the teaching and learning environment but has also enhanced students' ability to engage with D&T projects in innovative and hands-on ways. Our flexible design supports a wide range of activities, from practical design work to advanced robotics, fashion and textiles, offering a comprehensive approach to the D&T curriculum.

Aesthetics of the space were super charged by the addition of personalised branding on the Akira™ workbench panels, in a deep blue colour which matches the schools branding, creating a sense of pride and identity within the new environment for both teachers and students alike.

Through its partnership with the Technology Supplies team, Bolton Muslim Girls School has successfully created a modern, flexible, and inspiring space. This transformation not only aligns with the school’s forward-thinking approach to education but also sets the stage for students to thrive in creative and technical careers. The new facilities are a model of adaptability and innovation, ensuring that the school remains at the forefront of Design & Technology teaching and learning for years to come.

“Since the day we started liaising with them, my experience working with Technology Supplies was extremely positive. Through excellent communication, great pricing and regular meetings, the team worked hard all the way through the project to meet our needs - their experience and knowledge even saved us £30K during an unexpected, challenging point in the installation.”
